The 'Slow food' movement originated in Bra, Piemonte. In addition to delicious dishes, the 'Slow food' movement also published a wine guide under the name "Gambero Rosso". I have used this wine guide myself for 25 years on my travels to all regions of Italy. You can find my original copy in the library of the common room. Bra is also definitely worth a day's visit as a regional city.
Piedmont. Fantastic food and delicious wines. Besides Tuscany, Piedmont is the most prominent region for wines. The best-known wines are Barolo and Barbaresco, but there are also gems of wines to be found from grape varieties such as Nebbiolo (the basis for Barolo's and Barbaresco's), Barbera (comparable to a Merlot) and the local Dolcetto grapes. In addition, there are also a number of well-known white wines including Chardonnay and Arneis.
In the surrounding valleys you will find various landscapes and as you move further north, towards the Po Valley, the landscape changes into rolling hills with hillside meadows, vineyards and hazelnut fields.
